Your Ceiling Questions, Answered
PVC or gypsum ceiling: which is better for a humid climate?
PVC does not absorb moisture and wipes clean, so it suits wet and outdoor areas. Gypsum gives a smoother, seamless finish for living spaces and can be painted. Many homes use both.
Can a ceiling make my house cooler?
Yes. A ceiling creates an air gap below the roof, which reduces the heat reaching the room. Adding insulation above the ceiling improves this further.
Does a ceiling reduce rain noise on a metal roof?
It does. The ceiling and the air gap above it soften the sound of heavy rain, and insulation reduces it further still.
How do I plan lights and fans in a new ceiling?
Decide light, fan and air conditioning positions before the ceiling goes up, so supports and cut outs are planned and nothing has to be patched later.
Finish It Properly
- Main and cross tees
- Wall angles
- Hangers and fixings
- Joint tape and compound
- Cornices and cove profiles
- Access panels
